Ephesians 2

Made Alive in Christ

1And you
Lit being
were bdead
Or by reason of
in your trespasses and sins,
2in which you dformerly walked according to the
Lit age
course of fthis world, according to gthe prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in hthe sons of disobedience.
3Among them we too all iformerly lived in jthe lusts of our flesh,
Lit doing
indulging the desires of the flesh and of the
Lit thoughts
mind, and were mby nature nchildren of wrath, oeven as the rest.
4But God, being prich in mercy, because of qHis great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were rdead
Or by reason of
in our transgressions, made us alive together
Two early mss read in Christ
with Christ ( uby grace you have been saved),
6and vraised us up with Him, and wseated us with Him in xthe heavenly places in yChrist Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing zriches of His grace in aakindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For abby grace you have been saved acthrough faith; and
I.e. that salvation
that not of yourselves, it is aethe gift of God;
9 afnot as a result of works, so that agno one may boast. 10For we are His workmanship, ahcreated in aiChrist Jesus for ajgood works, which God akprepared beforehand so that we would alwalk in them.

11Therefore remember that amformerly anyou, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called aoUncircumcisionby the so-called apCircumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands 12remember that you were at that time separate from Christ,
Or alienated
,
arexcluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to asthe covenants of promise, having atno hope and auwithout God in the world.
13But now in avChrist Jesus you who awformerly were axfar off
Lit became; or were made
have azbeen brought near
Or in
,
bbby the blood of Christ.
14For He Himself is bcour peace, bdwho made both groups into one and broke down the

Or the enmity, by abolishing in His flesh the Law
by bgabolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is bhthe Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might
Lit create
,
bjmake the two into bkone new man, thus establishing blpeace,
16and might bmreconcile them both in bnone body to God through the cross,
Or in Himself
by it having bpput to death the enmity.
17And bq He came and preached br peace to you who were bs far away, and peace to those who were bt near; 18for through Him we both have buour access in bvone Spirit to bwthe Father. 19So then you are no longer bxstrangers and aliens, but you are byfellow citizens with the

saints, and are of caGod’s household,
20having been cbbuilt on ccthe foundation of cdthe apostles and prophets, ceChrist Jesus Himself being the cfcorner stone, 21 cgin whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into cha holy

22in whom you also are being cjbuilt together into a ckdwelling of God in the Spirit.
